  • De Lacy Sports Awards

    On Thursday 9th July, De Lacy Academy held their Sports Awards Presentation evening. 
    All our children who have taken part in the Football and Cricket teams were invited to attend. 
    It was a fantastic night where sporting success was celebrated.  Both our boys' and girls' football teams won the Knottingley Primary Schools league. 
    Members of both teams attended to collect the trophy and their certificates. 
    The cricket team came second in their league.

  • Summer Fayre

    Thank-You to everyone who came to the Summer Fayre or donated things for the stalls.

    We raised £292.50 for the School Fund.


  • British Heat Foundation - Ultimate Dodgeball

    1st July 2015

    A massive thankyou to every pupil who took the time to make such a big effort to get so many sponsors for the Ultimate Dodgeball Tournament.

    We raised a whopping £828.10 for The British Heart Foundation which is just amazing!

    Every child who took part will receive a certificate from the Foundation.

    We recently held a "Disney Day" at the Academy.

    Children dressed up as Disney characters and our kitchen staff produced a Disney themed lunch!

  • Tour de Yorkshire Bikefest

    30th April 2015

    On Wednesday 29th April, ten Year 5 children attended a BikeFest event at Nostell Priory.

    This event was organised in coordination with The Tour de Yorkshire international cycle race. Around 40 primary schools from across Wakefield took part in a fantastic day of cycling.

    The children had the opportunity to watch a professional trials bike demonstration and take part in a number of challenging races.

    All the children performed brilliantly and gave their all in every race.

  • Year 2 Residential Trip

    16th April 2015

    Last term, children from year 2 got the chance to go on a 1 night residential trip to Beaumanor Hall.

    When they arrived they were met by a vicious pirate and they were all given pirate names, the vicious pirate explained what they would be doing over the next few days.

    The first task was an exciting treasure hunt which Mr Sproule's team won of course.

    The little pirates loved finishing the treasure in a memory game and firing cannon balls at all the teachers, they had to avoid the sharks though.

    We had an amazing response to our Easter egg competition with some "cracking" entries from all year groups!!

     All the eggs were judged and prizes awarded in each year group.






  • The Solar Eclipse

    Children at school were lucky enough to be able to witness the recent solar eclipse that we had.

    They all researched the best and safest ways to view the eclipse and enjoyed getting outside to try out their viewing tecniques!





  • Healthy Packed Lunch Sessions

    27th March 2015

    All classes in school have now taken part in Healthy Packed Lunch sessions with Jane from the Community Food and Health Team. During the sessions pupils found out how to make sure they have a good variety of food groups in their packed lunches. They also talked about healthy swaps that could be made to make sure they have lots of energy to learn in the afternoons.

  • The Great Art Quest Project

    26th March 2015
    This year 5/6H have been very lucky to be involved in the Great Art Quest Project. 
    This project has allowed the children to work with two professional artists and create their own wonderful artistic sculptures. 
    The project came to an end this week when the children visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park for the finale event. 
    The children had the opportunity to see their fantastic sculptures displayed in the exhibition.

  • Spring Chicken Fun!

    All our pupils loved having the "Living Eggs" in school with us.

    They arrived as eggs and we were able to see them hatch out and then grow into fluffy, noisy chickens!

    The children were given the opportunity to hold them before they left us!

  • Red Nose Day - Huge Thank You!!

    Thank you to everyone who took part in this years Red Nose Day!!

    We raised a huge £595 by selling 350 red noses, in additon to that the children came to school with funny faces and bought buns at breaktime that other children and parents had made!

    The red noses have arrived and are available to purchase in school for £1.

    There are nine different designs, each come in a secret bag and if you find a golden nose you can win a prize!!



  • Bananagrams

    2nd March 2015

    Bananagrams is a fast and fun word game that requires no pencil, paper or board. All you need is a table. One hand can be played in as little as five minutes. It is great for family fun as well as being educational. Bananagrams' portability makes it perfect for travel. Just grab the pouch and go.

    Year 6 held a Banagrams Tournament and Ryan Witney was our Champion!

  • Barnsley F.C. Community Cup 2014

    12th December 2014
    Simpson's Lane travelled to Barnsley F.C. to participate in the community cup following their success in the De Lacy League. The first game was against Horbury Primary.
    Simpson's Lane were unlucky, conceding three sloppy goals and eventually losing 5-3 after a brave fight-back.
    The second game (Against the eventual winners-Ward Green Primary) started well for Simpson's Lane with the score 1-1 at half-time. Ferguson with the goal of the tournament, as he controlled and then volleyed from beyond the half-way
